MYCOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF CAMEL CARCASSES AT KALYOBIA ABATTOIRS

Abstract

A total of 150 swab samples were taken from the surface of camel carcasses for mycological examination . the mean value of total fungal count /cm2 was 1.6 ×103 , 5.2 × 103 and 2.9 ×104 for camel carcasses slaughtered at Benha ,Tukh and moshtohor inspection districts , respectively .representative of sixteen mould and yeast genera were isolated and identified . Aspergillus Flavus isolated from camel carcasses could produce alfatoxins B1 ,B2 ,G1 and G2    in synthetic medium (YES) .Alfatoxins could be detected in 150 meat samples obtained from same camel carcasses investigated for surface contamination with mould . However , inoculation of camels meat with different concentrations of isolated A.flavus spores resulted in production of B1 ,B2 ,G1 and G2    alfatoxins in variable amount according to the period of incubation and concentration of the A.flavus spores the public health importance of isolates , and some preventive measures were discussed.
